We have been working on writing sentences and adding juice words to our sentences. Juicy words describe things in our sentences so we have a better picture in our minds when we write. We use our drawings to help us, and we are using the Lively Letters to help us sound out words.

We circle the capital letters in green (green to start a sentence), and we circle the periods red (red to stop the sentence.)

 In math, our classes have been using a Beaded Number Line to count and make numbers. The beads are arranged in groups of ten, and there are 100 beads on this number line. When we use this number line, we can tell which number is closer to another number, and how many tens and ones are needed to make a number (Place Value). We also use the number line to count by 2s, 5s, and 10s - forwards and backwards.

 Hello Rooms 9 and 10,

We have just started working with graphs and data (information). By looking at a pictograph and a bar graph, we can make comparisons as to which amount is the largest, which amount is the smallest, and how much of an item we have.

The important question that we ask when we are discussing the information presented on graphs is: How do you know?  It is important for students to be able to explain their thinking and adjust their answers. This is how we learn.

 Greetings Rooms 9 and 10. Just a reminder that there will be no school on Wednesday November 11th to honor Remembrance Day.

We have been discussing peace and how we are lucky to be living in a safe country like Canada.  Ask your child what is peace, and why it is important to get along with others and to be kind.

 Welcome and Happy Halloween, Room 9 and 10.  We wanted to share a sample of our Halloween art with you. In addition to practicing our cutting and gluing skills, we are having a great time being so creative in making our Jack-o-lanterns!

 Hello Parents and Guardians of Rooms 9 and 10,

There will be the option to dress up at CJFS on Thursday, October 29th, 2020.

You do not need to buy a Halloween costume for this day. Instead you could dress in orange and black, your favorite colors, arrange your hair in a funny way, or wear a silly hat.

We are not allowed to wear a Halloween mask as all students and adults in the school are already required to wear a mask for Covid health standards.   Also, we are not allowed to bring objects such as fake guns or other weapons.

Also, please do not send food as we have allergies in our classrooms.  Let's have a safe and happy Halloween.

 In science we are learning about the 5 senses: sight, smell, touch, taste, and sound. We are drawing about what we know. For example, we know that we use our nose to smell things, and that the nose works with the tongue to smell and taste food.

We have been working on representing numbers using blocks, red and yellow counters, and drawing pictures. We have been also been counting by 1s and 2s. Math is fun and we talk about where we use math in our every day lives.
